It’s a lifestyle…
Poor Pitiful was birthed in 2005 on a shoe string budget. After attending fashion design school, I realized I didnt have the desire to work for a big company with constraints around my designs, but would rather be a self made entrepreneur and have the freedom to embrace the lifestyle I desired. At the time I was living in my hometown, Hermosa Beach and before I had ANY of the logistics things lined up, I drove by a small storefront for lease on the beach and knew immediately that I had to take a leap of faith. A waitress at the time, I used borrowed money to set up shop and prayed that people would appreciate my creativity because aside from a few sales to friends at the restaurant, I had only designed clothing for myself.
Thankfully God's favor rested on this endeavor and the store front was a huge success, paying off my first loan the first weekend we opened and giving my dream a larger vision for the future.
The business was booming, the community embraced my very off-the-wall designs ( especially for the time period when DIY was hardly a thing )
Shortly after I became a mother and sewing myself became unsustainable, it was then that I realized I could employ people who needed work and teach them how to bring my designs to fruition.
The vision grew…. to three contract sewers, models, assistants and culture around PPP, that felt like one big happy family.
After moving to Texas, PPP continued in a whole new way creating a movement in the hill country. Opening up another storefront in New Braunfels Texas and traveling with trade shows, pop ups and local markets all over Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.
PPP has been carried by several shops all over the USA, including Arizona, New York, Utah and Oregon.
Later moving back to California, In 2020, PPP closed its doors as a result of a global pandemic, a huge re-direction in my personal life and quite honestly, a great need to pause. Not knowing if I would ever return to designing clothing again, I felt God uncork my creativity again and bring the peace and space to rebirth PPP.
It feels good to be back and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to share my gifts and talents with you all.
